On behalf of the Federal Labor Party, I send my best wishes to the Organisation of African Community of WA Inc. and everyone celebrating the 52nd Africa Liberation Day. Africa Liberation Day is a special time for many in Australia’s African community. Today we recognise the various independence movements throughout Africa and we acknowledge the outstanding contributions Africans have made to our rich multiculturalism and to our economic prosperity. Today we also recognise World Refugee Day, a day to reinforce our commitment to supporting those displaced around the world. Australia has a proud record of welcoming refugees and Labor believes more should be done to assist those in search of safety. Apart from the original custodians of this land, we will always be a nation of migrants – a nation that welcomes people from right around the world and a nation that has been built by generations of migrants. On this special day, let us all recommit to this ideal and show our support for a diverse and vibrant Australia.
