Dr Casty Nyaga Hughes, CPA, is a practising accountant professional. She is the founder and director of Choice Accounting & Taxation Services, an accounting practice firm based in Perth, Western Australia. Choice Accounting & Taxation provides accounting, bookkeeping and taxation services for individual and businesses. Dr Casty has a wide range of experience from many years of being a university lecturer to working in the corporate sector, involved in resource optimisation, planning, systems and procedure documentation.
Dr Casty is a very organised and a dynamic time management expert who has a balanced lifestyle for her business, family and community involvement. As the Vice-president of Organisation of African Communities in WA focusing on Administration, Dr Casty is both diligent and committed to the service of the community. Dr Casty has been involved in community work from her early years, having served as a board member of several academic, religious and social institutions in Kenya, as well as a well-respected community leader. Being an experienced leader, Dr Casty brings a huge positive energy into the African community leadership where her impact extents to the wider WA’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community, as well as politicians and local community leaders. The OAC and the African community at large continue to benefit from her knowledge and uniqueness as a trainer, motivator, hard work and a team player, bringing the best out of each person.
Dr Casty holds a PhD in Business Administration (Information Systems), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM) and Graduate Diploma in Financial Management (GDip Fin Mgt) and Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science. She is a very passionate advocate of academic pursuit, a quality reflected by her interest and support of continuous improvement at all level, for individuals, families, organisations and leaders. Dr Casty believes that it’s never too late to start again and make a difference to oneself and those around. She is a great example and inspiration to the women who are determined to progress and make a positive difference within their families, workplace and community.
As an ‘Aussie’ woman with African rural roots, Dr Casty understands the challenges facing migrant women in their endeavour to break the barriers within the leadership arena in Australia. As a result, Dr Casty has a great passion to motivate and inspire women of all ages and backgrounds in various areas such as education, career and personal growth including financial stability and sustainability. Her passion to help extends to the professional migrants where Dr Casty focus on mentoring accountants from African countries and empowering them, to participate in the Australian economy. In 2019, Dr Casty was awarded Australia Day Individual Award by the City of Wanneroo in recognition of her continued commitment to mentor and support community members.
In her quest to developing stronger communities in Australia, Dr Casty is determined to support businesses and not-for-profit organisations establish systems, internal controls, procedures, resources management tools and values to strengthen sustainable and accountable migrant communities in Australia. Previous work of Dr Casty include computerisation of OACWA and Kenyan Community in Western Australia (KCWA) financial accounts and financial management reporting systems, in addition to training community leaders in financial literacy and record keeping.
