Empowering African Women Across Western Australia

Our Department focus:

Since 2019, OAC-WA Women’s Department aims to support African Australian woman in WA in their journey to fulfilling their goals as participating citizens and leaders. To achieve this the department aims to provide platforms and avenues to empower African Australian women living in WA to positively and proactively influence one another to support and build strong families, communities and be successful community and business leaders. This platform will be used to help African Australian women living in WA to build their self-confidence, break barriers and live with a sense of greater freedom to express their voices and achieve their aspirations. In addition, the Department will focus on economics empowerment to enable the African Australia women to increase their contribution to the social and economic development primarily in WA as well as Australia & Africa.

Our Foundation

Launched on 9th March 2019 under the theme ‘Together We Influence and Empower’, the OACWA Women Department supports African Australian women in WA to become active citizens and leaders. Our focus is on building confidence, breaking barriers, and creating pathways for women to thrive socially, economically, and professionally.

Voices of A-LEAD Women

The A-LEAD Program, initially a joint initiative between OACWA and the University of Western Australia, now in partnership with Curtin University, equips African Australian women with leadership, entrepreneurship, and networking skills. Through workshops, mentoring, and public forums, A-LEAD inspires women to break stereotypes, lead with confidence, and build meaningful impact in their communities.
