AFRICA DAY 2023 COMMEMORATION
President Message
On behalf of the executive, I'd like to thank everyone who attended the 2023 Africa Day on May 27th at Curtin University Stadium. I was delighted that over 1,500 people joined us in person, and over 1.1K people watched the live stream on social media on that day. This number continues to grow with every passing hour (at the time of this newsletter, 2.3K views). I would particularly like to thank the African Association leaders who continue to partner with us to celebrate Africa Day, which dates back to 1963, marking 60 years ago. My sincere gratitude goes to our sponsors, organizing partners, Business Expo and food vendors, keynote speaker (Dr Casta Tungaraza), guest speaker (Meredith Hammat MLA, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests), the panellists (Hon. Ayor Makur Chuot MLC, Dr Casta Tungaraza, Dr Peter Oyewopo, and John Aciek), our community pillar advisor (Prof. Samuel Makinda), and the entire audience. We appreciate your presence and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many members during the event.

APPRECIATION

On behalf of OACWA, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to each and everyone of you who graced us with your presence at this weekend's celebration. The event was a resounding success, and we were thrilled to witness the remarkable turnout of individuals coming together to honour and celebrate Africa's rich and diverse cultures.

The soccer tournament provided a delightful afternoon filled with friendly competition and camaraderie. We were equally delighted to witness the graduation of our mentors who will be joining the youth mentoring program. Their commitment and dedication to supporting the younger generation of our community is truly commendable, and we are excited to see the positive impact they will make.

Lastly, we hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion centered around this year's Africa-themed topic: "Building Stronger African Communities and Unlocking the Potential of WA for a Brighter Future." The panelists provided valuable insights and fostered meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for African communities in Western Australia.
