Mabel Barker

Mabel is a beautician who has worked and served in several capacities aimed at community harmony and well-being. She served as a linguistic interpreter for newly arrived French migrants, vice president of her church women ministry, a vital member of the OACWA women department, and the beautician and mentor of the Miss Liberia for the Liberian community in WA.

As a beautician, she used her salon to train and employ young Africans, providing them a sense of purpose and work experience. Mabel has supported the Miss African (10 years), Miss Liberia (3 years), and Miss South Sudan (2 years) pageants through mentoring the participants and volunteering in other capacities. These have indeed lifted the confidence and the can-do spirit of most of these young and vulnerable African ladies.

Kindly join us to congratulate Mabel for such an outstanding service to the community.

Courage Madinya

Courage is the current Zimbabwe Association of Western Australia (ZAWA) Chair. As a chair of ZAWA, he has collaborated with Zimbabwean sub/ethnic groups to build an inclusive and united Zimbabwe community in WA.

He has, over the years, connected the Zimbabwean community through their mental health week, Independence Day, Heroes’ Day, and the community award program. Courage has provided the community members with the needed platform to start and grow their businesses. He has spearheaded this by ensuring every community program has stalls available to showcase the businesses and products of community members. Courage is a good
listener and assists those in need within the community by providing appropriate assistance channels, especially in COVID 19. He has improved the culture of belongingness and the need for constant outreach to support his community. Courage is a consistent and committed supporter of other African community events, celebrations and hand-on where needed. He leads by example.

Join us celebrate Courage for his dedication to fostering community harmony, support and wellbeing
