This award recognises an outstanding woman in leadership, a woman who has contributed positively to promoting women, communities or group development in WA’s African Australian community. The award acknowledges high level innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and a commitment to creating transformative change at a grass roots community level or beyond.

Lemmy Izengo

Lemmy is the current president of the Tanzanian Community in WA and a business owner who has used her fashion business (@beafricawear) to celebrate and empower community creativity through textiles designs (telling the African traditional culture story fashion). She uses African culture and contemporary designs to inspire young African ladies and women to
share their skills and dreams. As a community advocate, Lemmy has contributed to STOP the violence, JAMBO Africa of OACWA, French festival, Mirrabooka Multicultural markets, and crisis creates community, etc.

She organises workshops and presentations to help celebrate and share the African culture among our communities. Lemmy is an ardent mentor of community groups. She worked with the Congolese and the Equatorial communities on an art project aimed at advancing community goals. She has been a contributor in project management and community development, business, and mentoring programs for OMI, CAN and is currently a participant
at the CIVAL leadership training program. Her goal is to motivate others to make changes and strive for new heights as they achieve their goals.

Yemu Phiri

Yemu is a consultant, an HR leader, and a pastor. She uses her skills to provide educational and coaching services/programs to equip and empower female entrepreneurs/professionals to unlock and own their greatness, build their influence, and maximise their impact. As a pastor, she inspires people to live with a deep consciousness of God’s greatness through various programs. Her passion for empowering and educating African women led her to author a
fictional biography of 10 remarkable and inspirational African women on a mission to make a difference in the world – Mighty Women of Africa, stories of hope, resilience, and potential for young readers.

Yemu, launched the lunch hour networking group to help working mums tap into the value of networking without being impeded by their caring responsibilities. This initiative was covered by the ABC online and received massive positive feedbacks. Yemu is a believer in the greatness of God and humanity, a connector, and a contributor. She has, over the years, used these to lead wherever she can to do.

Eunice Anyek

Eunice is an influential women leader within the Equatorial community, a sub-group from the South Sudanese Community. She has formed and maintained the powerful Equatorial women group, which constitutes thousands of women from diverse tribes. Under her leadership, the community has been able to complete a vital South Sudanese food recipe book. This is a massive project and seeing and bringing it to a successful end is an outstanding achievement. Eunice is a crucial mentor and an exceptional leader within her community.
